Campbell University is Clear Cutting the River Park
65% of the River Park will be clear cut, sprayed with multiple herbicide applications and replanted as a loblolly pine plantation. Much of the remaining forest will be selection cut -- removing the largest, oldest trees that feed and sustain younger trees through their root networks. Even the fragile bottomland ecosystems will be cut -- total ecosystem collapse.

Our Challenge
Our Mission
The Campbell Community is blessed with a natural treasure -- 380 acres of aged pine and hardwood forests, meadows managed for pollinator plants and a unique floodplain on the Cape Fear River. Our mission is simple -- SAVE THESE TREASURED ECOSYSTEMS FROM COMPLETE DESTRUCTION.
Welcome to Campbell River Park!

A Vital Greenspace in a Growing Community
Look around! As we welcome new neighbors to our community, our remaining greenspaces become even more vital to the health and well-being of our people and the plants, animals and ecosystems that sustain us.
For more than a decade, the River Park has been a beacon for outdoor fellowship and leadership development, peaceful walks and youth camps.

A Thriving Web of Ecosystems --
Threatened with Total Collapse
Campbell University's Planned Clear Cuts will Decimate Biodiversity, Collapse Interconnected Ecosystems and Scar the Land for Decades to Come

CLEAR CUTS will be followed by drone or helicopter-deployed herbicides.

SELECTION CUTS will occur in hardwood stands -- cutting down the biggest trees that sustain their smaller neighbors through root networks.
CLEAR CUTS (CC) will impact Club Road Residents first. NO ONE in this community, known as Little Africa for boasting one of Harnett's first and largest black-owned farms, was notified of the disruption, which will last for a minimum of two years. SELECTION CUTS (SC) will destroy bottomland ecosystems and their wetland plants by removing the largest trees that anchor those systems, crushing understory plants and disrupting and compacting the soil.
Later on, CLEAR CUTS (CC) will extend to the very edge of the Keith Hills Golf Course Community. Again, NO ONE in this community was notified of the massive disruptions planned for this peaceful neighborhood. Feller-buncher harvesters can be heard from 1-2 miles away. Aerial herbicide residues may travel dozens to hundreds of meters downwind to the east.
